Kris Horton is K. Horton Specialty Foods. Kris has over ten years of personal relationships with Maine cheese-makers, farmers, and smoked seafood producers. Her father, Don Horton, produced nationally famous smoked salmon for 17 years, and Kris worked with him for ten of those years in the smokehouse in Maine. She then farmed vegetables and fruits for retail for another decade.
Kris knows when a superb product is being produced, and she will be one of a very select few who will get that product. Whether it is an outstanding, award winning Maine cheese, or the most perfect of Maine organic produce or smoked seafood, Kris will have it if it is in season.
Kris is a member of and committed to the Buy Local movement. Her shop in the Portland’s Monument Square is filled with the finest food products produced in Maine. She also has the same many years of experience with the finest international cheeses and other specialty products. She joined the original vendors in the famed Portland Public Market, a landmark building in Portland, built to promote Maine products. Kris has continued that mission as President of the new Public Market House on Monument Square. She has been a teacher, an artist, and a food grower and producer, and sees her focus on customer service as a continuation of these passions.
