I love cheese. Not only to eat, but to learn about and hopefully guide my customers to the perfect choice. Each one of the over 150 varieties of cheese that we offer has a fascinating story behind it. We delight in the balances and blending of tastes between cheeses, wines and other complimentary foods.

K. Horton Specialty Foods came into being in 1998, when the Portland Public Market first opened. At that time we focused on smoked seafood from my father’s smokehouse in Maine. We soon expanded to cheese and now offer a wide variety of specialty foods including olives, meat & seafood pates, dry salamis, gourmet condiments and much more. From Maine farmers we get goat cheese and other fine products. We offer many domestic selections as well as an assortment from the following countries: Denmark, England, Finland, France, Germany, Greece, Holland, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Norway, Scotland, Spain and Switzerland.

We welcome you to our new location at the Market House at 28 Monument Square and ask you to take some time with me for a little cheese experience and a story or two…that you can pass on to your guests as you serve the best there is!

I look forward to seeing you,

Our Mission: Cheese Sampling & Supporting Local

We offer a wide variety of high quality native and international cheeses with appropriate and delightful pairings.

We invite our customers to expand their experiences and knowledge of cheese through sampling anything in the store with our trained staff.

We celebrate products from small local growers and producers. We believe that products are more carefully created on a small scale, and that it benefits the whole community to buy local.
